Scholarships for International Students

All international GIHM students are guaranteed full tuition waiver upon admission.

GIHM students are eligible and encouraged to apply for monthly stipend scholarships so your living expenses can be covered.  There are several sources of such scholarships for international students:
  1. Taipei Medical University,
  2. Taiwan's governmental agencies, of which there are three: the Ministry of Education (MOE), the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and
  3. GIHM scholarship.
All GIHM applicants should apply for the TMU scholarship AND at least one external (e.g. governmental) scholarship, and then pick the one that is most beneficial to you (Note: external scholarships such as those from MOE, MOST, and MOFA have better stipends).  For the GIHM scholarship, you are automatically considered as long as you have applied for the aforementioned scholarships and can provide proof of having applied. The stipend amount and available GIHM scholarship slots are dependent on the funding available each year.

A brief introduction to the scholarships follows, and a more detailed description can be found on the TMU OGE website:

TMU Scholarship

TMU international students (Chinese or Taiwanese citizens are not eligible) may apply for scholarships when they apply for admission to the GIHM program, using the same TMU online admissions website.  Therefore, if you have not submitted your online admissions application, please do so first. For scholarships, students' previous academic performance, extra-curricular activities, work experience, financial situation, and other achievements will all be taken into consideration.

Master's students are eligible for either:
  1. Type B (tuition waiver plus a monthly allowance of NTD $12,000), or
  2. Type C (full tuition waiver) scholarship is guaranteed for all students.
Students will begin receiving their scholarships upon enrollment and official registration at TMU (usually in October).

Taiwanese Government Scholarships

To apply, you should contact your local Taiwanese Embassy (formally known as Taipei Economic and Cultural Office - TECO) in your country:

The embassy personnel will help you decide which government scholarships (MOE, MOST, MOFA) you can apply for and inform you about the deadlines for these scholarship applications (the deadlines differ between different agencies, and between different countries; therefore, it is very important to talk to your local embassy first!). If you encounter any difficulties, please contact the GIHM secretary, Ms. XiaoDoe Lin (, or Dr. Li-Wen Shih (

These scholarships provide extensive funding and are strongly encouraged. For example, MOE scholarships pay NTD $20,000 per month for master’s students, which is better than TMU’s and GIHM’s scholarships.

Please also note that, for some Taiwan government scholarships, the deadline might be earlier than the TMU admission deadline (for 2024, it was March 15th, Taipei time).  Therefore, it's good to start these scholarships early and contact your local TECO offices as soon as possible.

GIHM Scholarship

The GIHM Scholarship provides a monthly stipend of NTD $12,000.

GIHM Scholarships are reserved for students who have applied for both a TMU scholarship, and at least one external scholarship (MOE, MOST, MOFA, or any of your home country's scholarship opportunities). If you applied, but did not receive any funding, then you are automatically eligible and considered for a GIHM Scholarship (number of available slots varies every year, but tuition waiver is guaranteed for everyone). Please keep a copy of the proof (e.g. confirmation letter, confirmation screen shot, etc.) of your TMU and external scholarship applications.
