Hi, my name is Carlos Hernandez.

I am a graduate student from Mexico with a background in philosophy and rhetoric. My research and academic interests include:
    • Rhetoric of Health and Medicine: Exploring how language shapes and influences medical practices and patient experiences.
    • Metaphors in Medical Communication: Analyzing the role of metaphors in healthcare discourse and their impact on patient understanding and treatment.
    • Processes of Resistance: Investigating how individuals and communities resist medicalization and assert agency in healthcare settings.
    • Critical Race Theory: Examining the intersection of race, language, and power within medical communication and healthcare systems.
    • International Students' Healthcare Experiences: Guided by my advisor, Dr. Po Fang Tsai, I have conducted research on how international students describe and navigate their experiences with Taiwan's healthcare system, highlighting the role of language and cultural context in these interactions.

My work aims to uncover the underlying power dynamics and cultural narratives that affect healthcare communication, contributing to more equitable healthcare practices.
I’m always open to connecting with others who share similar interests or are curious about my research. Feel free to reach out to me at carlosrhetoric@outlook.com—I’d be happy to discuss ideas or answer any questions.
